Easter 2024 Letter from Drew

Easter greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, resurrected and forever alive!

Here’s the gospel in five words: moving from death to life. Consider these three Bible verses:

  • Jesus: “Whoever hears my words and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life” (John 5:24).
  • Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life (Romans 6:13).
  • We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death (1 John 3:14).

Whoever hears my words and believes has eternal life and has crossed over from death to life. Isn’t that wonderful? Because of Jesus’ physical Resurrection to life, resurrection to new and eternal life is made possible for the rest of us, and this while living on this side of heaven, and all from hearing and believing. And what’s so amazing is that it’s happening all the time, even when we’re not consciously aware of it taking place.

After worship on the Sunday Chad Schlosser shared with us about the ministry of InterVarsity at SC4, Emily, one of their small group leaders, shared with me how God’s been moving in her roommate’s life. On the evening Emily was scheduled to share her own story/testimony at an InterVarsity meeting, she invited her roommate, an unbeliever, to come. Her roommate agreed to come but only as a show of moral support; she had zero interest in anything to do with InterVarsity or the Christian faith. God, on the other hand, had a lot of interest in her. By the time the meeting finished, something was stirring within her. She later expressed an interest in attending another InterVarsity meeting. Eventually, her roommate came to saving faith in Jesus Christ. She heard and believed and crossed over from death to life! She was resurrected to new life!

Hers is but one example of persons being resurrected to new life every day. It’s a daily happening because God’s in the ‘resurrection business,’ and because it’s God’s desire that all persons come to repentance of sins, he’s working his will every single day.

What does a resurrected life look like? According to 1 John 3:14 (see above), the surest sign of a resurrected life is loving others. To love others is not necessarily to feel lovingly towards everyone—although it’s certainly possible for the Holy Spirit to transform our feeling-self in this regard—but more so, to outwardly express the love of Jesus which God has poured into our hearts through faith. When Jesus’ love overflows from us into the lives of others, then we’re fulfilling the command to love others.

Our Easter offering is an easy and real way to pour the love of Jesus into others. In keeping with this year’s Olde Town Churches Lenten Lunches offering support, 100% of our Easter offeringgraphic indicating external link will be given to the Blue Water Area Rescue Missiongraphic indicating external link ( in support of their vital service to Port Huron’s homeless community. Having led a handful of Bible studies there this winter, I can personally attest to the positive impact BWARM has on the men who stay there.
