Prelude – “Jesus Is Calling” – Arr. by Franklin Ritter

*Call to Worship (Psalm 15)

  • L: O Lord, who may abide in your tent? Who may dwell on your holy hill?
  • P: Those who walk blamelessly and do what is right and speak the truth from their heart.
  • L: Those who do not slander with their tongue and do no evil to their friends nor heap shame upon their neighbors.
  • P: Those who honor the Lord.
  • L: Those who stand by their oath even to their hurt.
  • P: Those who do not lend money at interest and do not take a bribe against the innocent. Those who do these things shall never be moved.
  • L: Let us worship God who empowers us to live like this!

*Hymn – “O God, Our Help in Ages Past” – UMH #117

  1. O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,
    our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home!
  2. Under the shadow of thy throne, still may we dwell secure;
    sufficient is thine arm alone, and our defense is sure.
  3. Before the hills in order stood, or earth received her frame,
    from everlasting, thou art God, to endless years the same.
  4. A thousand ages, in thy sight, are like an evening gone;
    short as the watch that ends the night, before the rising sun.
  5. Time, like an ever rolling stream, bears all who breathe away;
    they fly forgotten, as a dream dies at the opening day.
  6. O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come;
    be thou our guide while life shall last, and our eternal home.

Anthem – “Go Ye Into All the World” – By Eugene Butler

Scripture Reading – Matthew 4:18-22

18As Jesus walked alongside the Galilee Sea, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, throwing fishing nets into the sea, because they were fishermen. 19“Come, follow me,” he said, “and I’ll show you how to fish for people.” 20Right away, they left their nets and followed him. 21Continuing on, he saw another set of brothers, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with Zebedee their father repairing their nets. Jesus called them and 22immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

  • L: The Word of God, the Word of Life.
  • P: Thanks be to God!

Sermon – “The Three Commitments of a Disciple”

Pastoral Prayer and Lord’s Prayer

*Hymn – “Jesus Calls Us” – UMH #398

  1. Jesus calls us o’er the tumult
    of our life’s wild, restless sea;
    day by day his sweet voice soundeth,
    saying, “Christian, follow me!”
  2. As of old the apostles heard it
    by the Galilean lake,
    turned from home and toil and kindred,
    leaving all for Jesus’ sake.
  3. Jesus calls us from the worship
    of the vain world’s golden store,
    from each idol that would keep us,
    saying, “Christian, love me more!”
  4. In our joys and in our sorrows,
    days of toil and hours of ease,
    still he calls, in cares and pleasures,
    “Christian, love me more than these!”
  5. Jesus calls us! By thy mercies,
    Savior, may we hear thy call,
    give our hearts to thine obedience,
    serve and love thee best of all.

*Closing Song – “The Spirit Sends Us Forth to Serve” – FWS #2241

  1. The Spirit sends us forth to serve;
    We go in Jesus’ name
    To bring glad tidings to the poor,
    God’s favor to proclaim.
  2. We go to comfort those who mourn
    And set the burdened free;
    Where hope is dim, to share a dream
    And help the blind to see.
  3. We go to be the hands of Christ,
    To scatter joy like seed
    And, all our days, to cherish life,
    To do the loving deed.
  4. Then let us go to serve in peace,
    The gospel to proclaim.
    God’s Spirit has empowered us;
    We go in Jesus’ name.

Benediction

*Postlude – “I Want to Be More Like You” – By Clint Brown

Lyrics to Special Music

Go Ye Into All the World
Go ye into all the world and preach My gospel to ev’ry creature! Go ye into all the world and preach My gospel to ev’ry creature! Go ye into all the world, go ye into all the world and preach My gospel! Jesus said, “This is the great commandment: that ye love one another as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this; that he lay down his life for his friends.” Go ye into all the world and preach My gospel to ev’ry creature! Go ye into all the world and preach My gospel to ev’ry creature! Go ye into all the world! go ye into all the world and preach My gospel! “Let not your heart be troubled, You believe in God, If you believe in God, You believe in Me!” Go ye into all the world and preach My gospel to ev’ry creature! Go ye into all the world and preach My gospel to ev’ry creature! Go ye into all the world! Go ye into all the world and preach My gospel! Go ye into all the world! Alleluia! Go ye into all the world and preach! Alleluia!

Forth in Thy Name, O Lord
Forth in Thy name, O Lord, I go my daily labor to pursue; Thee, only Thee, resolved to know, in all I think, or speak, or do. What task Thy wisdom hath assigned, O let me cheerfully fulfill; in all my works Thy presence find, and prove Thy good and perfect will. Thee may I set at my right hand, guide and counselor there to be: laboring on at Thy command, I offer all my works to Thee. Fain would I still for Thee employ whate’er Thy bounteous grace hath giv’n, would run my course with even joy, and closely walk with Thee to heav’n. Amen. Amen.
