*Call to Worship

  • L: We have been claimed by the God who calls us children,
  • P: We, the redeemed, have been called by name.

  • P: We will not fear, for God is with us!
  • L: The rivers shall not overwhelm us for God is our guide and our protector.
  • P: Through God’s saving grace, the waters that tested us are now the waters that wash us and nourish us.
  • L: Great is the Fount of Every Blessing,
  • P: Ever flowing, ever redeeming, ever claiming us as God’s children.
  • L: Come, let us worship the God who washes us in grace.

*Hymn – “Praise and Thanksgiving Be to God” – UMH #604

  1. Praise and thanksgiving be to God our maker,
    source of all blessing, prodigal creator.
    Baptized and made your own, now we come before you,
    while we adore you.
  2. Not our own holiness nor that we have striven
    Brings us the peace which you, O Christ, have given.
    Baptized and set apart, strengthen us, O Savior,
    with grace and favor.
  3. Come, Holy Spirit, come in visitation;
    You are the truth, our hope, and our salvation.
    Baptize with joy and power, give, O Dove descending,
    Life never ending.
  4. Praise to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
    One Lord, one faith, one source of every merit.
    Here now renew your church through this water given;
    Grant peace from heaven.

Invitation to Give and Prayer of Dedication

Offertory – “We Three Kings” – Arr. by Cynthia Dobrinski

Scripture Reading – Luke 3:15-17, 21-22

15The people were filled with expectation, and everyone wondered whether John might be the Christ. 16John replied to them all, “I baptize you with water, but the one who is more powerful than me is coming. I’m not worthy to loosen the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 17The shovel he uses to sift the wheat from the husks is in his hands. He will clean out his threshing area and bring the wheat into his barn. But he will burn the husks with a fire that can’t be put out.”
21When everyone was being baptized, Jesus also was baptized. While he was praying, heaven was opened 22and the Holy Spirit came down on him in bodily form like a dove. And there was a voice from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I dearly love; in you I find happiness.”

  • L: The word of God; the word of Life.
  • P: Thanks be to God.

Message – “Yes, I’m Called!”

    Dead in the tomb with Christ, our King;
    One with His rising, Freed and forgiven,
    Thankfully now God’s praises we sing.

    Marked with the sign of Christ, our King;
    Born of one Father, We are his children,

*Closing Hymn – “Wash, O God, Our Sons and Daughters” – UMH #605

  1. Wash, O God, our sons and daughters, where your cleansing waters flow.
    Number them among your people; bless as Christ blessed long ago.
    Weave them garments bright and sparkling; compass them with love and light.
    Fill, anoint them; send your Spirit, holy dove and heart’s delight.
  2. We who bring them long for nurture; by your milk may we be fed.
    Let us join your feast, partaking cup of blessing, living bread.
    God, renew us, guide our footsteps; free from sin and all its snares,
    One with Christ in living, dying, by your Spirit, children, heirs.
  3. O how deep your holy wisdom! Unimagined, all your ways!
    To your name be glory, honor! With our lives we worship, praise!
    We our people stand before you, water-washed and Spirit born.
    By your grace, our lives we offer. Recreate us; God, transform!

*Benediction

Lyrics to Special Music

You Are a Child of the King
You are a child of the King, redeemed and called by his name. You are a child of the King, precious in the sight of the Lord. When you pass through the waters the Lord will be with you. When you pass through the waters the Lord will be there. When you pass through the waters, the cold chilly waters, there is nothing, no nothing to fear. When you walk through the fire the Lord will be with you, when you walk through the fire, the Lord will be there. When you walk through the fire, the flames won’t consume you; there is nothing, no nothing to fear. You, you are a child of the King, redeemed and called by his name, his holy name. You are a child of the King, precious in the sight of the Lord. You are a child of the King, redeemed and called by his name, his name. You are a child of the King, precious in the sight of the Lord; precious in the sight of the Lord, the Lord.
