Welcome & Announcements

Prelude – “On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand” – Arr. by Adam Mason

*Call to Worship

*Opening Hymn – “Now Thank We All Our God” – UMH #102

  1. Now thank we all our God, with heart and hands and voices,
    who wondrous things has done, in whom this world rejoices;
    who from our mothers’ arms has blessed us on our way
    with countless gifts of love, and still is ours today.
  2. O may this bounteous God through all our life be near us,
    with ever joyful hearts and blessed peace to cheer us;
    and keep us still in grace, and guide us when perplexed;
    and free us from all ills, in this world and the next.
  3. All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given;
    the Son, and him who reigns with them in highest heaven;
    the one eternal God, whom earth and heaven adore;
    for thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.

*Unison Prayer

God, we thank you for this special day in which we celebrate the
achievements of those who have finished their current course of study
and now prepare for all that lay ahead. We thank you for the ongoing
opportunities you provided to all of us to learn and grow in our faith.
Help us to weave more of your truth into our lives. We thank you for the
beautiful world you’ve created and given to us. Be with us as we all go
out and discover our places within it. And we thank you for the hope
you’ve placed in our hearts and the grace to live each day hopefully. In
Christ’s name we pray. Amen.

Litany of Thanksgiving

  • L: Let us give thanks to the Lord who guides us to face the challenges and opportunities of life.
  • P: We thank you Lord, for your leading, your encouragement, your gifts of educators and teachers, of friends and neighbors who have helped us and encouraged us in the opportunities of life.
  • L: Let us give thanks to the Lord for the families and homes into which these graduates and all of us were born and have been nurtured.
  • P: We are grateful, Lord, for our children and our parents and parental figures, for our homes and families where we learn to grow and experience all the wonders of this life.
  • L: Lord, this is a time of joy for us as we watch these graduates gather before us to celebrate the completion of this phase of their education and move out from here in new directions for their lives. We ask that you would be with them as they go and strengthen them as they take on new responsibilities in this world. Give them, and us, faith and encouragement as we try to be your servants who live in joy and thankfulness for all we have received.
  • P: We praise you Lord, for all your gifts, and for the opportunity to come together as your people to celebrate this day with these persons. Bless each of them, that they would come to know your purposes for them, and that they would choose to live into those purposes with trust in you.
  • L: (to the Graduates) In all that lies before you, whether it’s more schooling, a job, military service, or even a time of “waiting and seeing,” who shall separate you from the love Christ has for you? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or hunger or unemployment or even the possibility of dying?
  • Graduates: No! In all these things we win a sweeping victory through Jesus Christ, the one who loves us. For we are convinced that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ Jesus our Lord: not death or life, not angels or rulers, not present things or future things, not powers or height or depth, or any other thing that is created.
  • P: Amen!

*Song – “Forever” – W&S #3023

Give thanks to the Lord, our God and King; his love endures forever.
For he is good, he is above all things; his love endures forever.
Sing praise, sing praise!

With a mighty hand and outstretched arm, his love endures forever.
For the life that’s been reborn; his love endures forever.
Sing praise, sing praise! Sing praise, sing praise!

Chorus:
Forever God is faithful, forever God is strong,
forever God is with us, forever, forever!
From the rising to the setting sun, his love endures forever.
And by the grace of God, we will carry on; his love endures forever.
Sing praise, sing praise! Sing praise, sing praise!

Time with the Children

Anthem – “Jesus Loves Me” (based on Clair de Lune) – Arranged by Fred Bock

Scripture Reading – Matthew 7:24-29

24“Everybody who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a
wise builder who built a house on bedrock. 25The rain fell, the floods came, and the
wind blew and beat against that house. It didn’t fall because it was firmly set on
bedrock. 26But everybody who hears these words of mine and doesn’t put them into
practice will be like a fool who built a house on sand. 27The rain fell, the floods
came, and the wind blew and beat against that house. It fell and was completely
destroyed.”

28When Jesus finished these words, the crowds were amazed at his
teaching 29because he was teaching them like someone with authority and not like
their legal experts.

  • L: The word of God; the word of Life.
  • P: Thanks be to God.

Sermon “The Choice Is Yours”

Pastoral Prayer and Lord’s Prayer

Invitation to Give and Prayer of Dedication

Offertory – “A Blessing of Love” – By Mark Patterson

*Closing Song “Standing on the Promises” UMH# 374

Refrain:
Standing, standing,
standing on the promises of God my Savior;
standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

  1. Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
    through eternal ages let his praises ring;
    glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
    standing on the promises of God.
  2. Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
    when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
    by the living Word of God I shall prevail,
    standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]
  3. Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
    bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord,
    overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
    standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]
  4. Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
    listening every moment to the Spirit’s call,
    resting in my Savior as my all in all,
    standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

*Benediction

*Postlude – “Pomp and Circumstance” – By Edward Elgar

Lyrics to Special Music

A Blessing of Love
May the rays of the rising sun make your pathway bright. May each star that shines
above be a beacon in the night. May your heart be filled with peace that comes
from the gentle dove. May you live forever in the fullness of God’s love. May the
Lord go beside you as you walk the path of life. May God’s hand gently guide you
as you let your wings take flight, and even through the darkest night may God
surround you with His holy light. So walk in faith, the hand of God will guide you as
you live each day. His love will go beside you, He will give you hope, He will give
you strength, and you will know the goodness of His love. May the rays of the rising
sun make your pathway bright. May each star that shines above be a beacon in the night. May your heart be filled with peace that comes from the gentle dove. May
you live forever in the fullness of God’s love. May you live forever, may you live
forever, may you live forever in the fullness of God’s love.
