*Hymn – “Rejoice, the Lord is King” – UMH #715 (vv. 1-3)
- Rejoice, the Lord is King! Your Lord and King adore;
mortals, give thanks and sing, and triumph evermore.
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
rejoice; again I say, rejoice. - Jesus the Savior reigns, the God of truth and love;
when he had purged our stains, he took his seat above.
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
rejoice; again I say, rejoice. - His kingdom cannot fail; he rules o’er earth and heaven;
the keys of earth and hell are to our Jesus given.
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice;
rejoice; again I say, rejoice.
*Prayer

Scripture Reading 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
13Brothers and sisters, we want you to know about people who have died so that you won’t mourn like others who don’t have any hope. 14Since we believe that Jesus died and rose, so we also believe that God will bring with him those who have died in Jesus. 15What we are saying is a message from the Lord: we who are alive and still around at the Lord’s coming definitely won’t go ahead of those who have died. 16This is because the Lord himself will come down from heaven with the signal of a shout by the head angel and a blast on God’s trumpet. First, those who are dead in Christ will rise. 17Then, we who are living and still around will be taken up together with them in the clouds to meet with the Lord in the air. That way we will always be with the Lord. 18So encourage each other with these words.
Anthem – “For the Beauty of the Earth” – arr. by Arnold B. Sherman
Scripture Reading – 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
We don’t need to write to you about the timing and dates, brothers and sisters. You know very well that the day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night. When they are saying, “There is peace and security,” at that time sudden destruction will attack them, like labor pains start with a pregnant woman, and they definitely won’t escape. But you aren’t in darkness, brothers and sisters, so the day won’t catch you by surprise like a thief. All of you are children of light and children of the day. We don’t belong to night or darkness. So then, let’s not sleep like the others, but let’s stay awake and stay sober. People who sleep sleep at night, and people who get drunk get drunk at night. Since we belong to the day, let’s stay sober, wearing faithfulness and love as a piece of armor that protects our body and the hope of salvation as a helmet. God didn’t intend for us to suffer his wrath but rather to possess salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with him. So continue encouraging each other and building each other up, just like you are doing already.
- L: The Word of God, the Word of Life.
- P: Thanks be to God!
Sermon – “Dead, But Not Dead”
*Hymn – “My Lord, What a Morning” – UMH #719
Refrain:
My Lord, what a morning;
my Lord, what a morning;
oh, my Lord, what a morning,
when the stars begin to fall.
- You’ll hear the trumpet sound,
to wake the nations underground,
looking to my God’s right hand,
when the stars begin to fall.
(Refrain) - You’ll hear the sinner moan,
to wake the nations underground,
looking to my God’s right hand,
when the stars begin to fall.
(Refrain) - You’ll hear the Christian shout,
to wake the nations underground,
looking to my God’s right hand
when the stars begin to fall.
(Refrain)

Offertory – “I Can Stand in His Presence” – By Randy Vader
Doxology
*Prayer of Dedication
*Closing Hymn – “Shall We Gather at the River” – UMH #723
Refrain:
Yes, we’ll gather at the river,
the beautiful, the beautiful river;
gather with the saints at the river
that flows by the throne of God.
- Shall we gather at the river,
where bright angel feet have trod,
with its crystal tide forever
flowing by the throne of God? - On the margin of the river,
washing up its silver spray,
we will walk and worship ever,
all the happy golden day.
(Refrain) - Ere we reach the shining river,
lay we every burden down;
grace our spirits will deliver,
and provide a robe and crown.
(Refrain) - Soon we’ll reach the shining river,
soon our pilgrimage will cease;
soon our happy hearts will quiver
with the melody of peace.
(Refrain)
*Benediction
*Postlude – “Shall We Gather at the River”
Lyrics to Special Music
I Can Stand in His Presence
What would cause the King of glory to come and die for man? What would bring the heavenly Father to create this master plan: There is nothing I should merit, there is nothing I can do. Yet I stand redeemed before Him and praise God I know it’s true. Jesus bore all my sorrow, all the guilt that was mine, all the sins I’ve committed washed away for all time, for all time. Thru His love so amazing, by His infinite grace I can stand in His presence. I can stand for He stood in my place. All the altars of the ages could not erase the stain. All the brokenness and anguish, all the heartache and the pain: For the guilt demands a verdict only death can pay the price. Yet the only One who’s blameless is the willing sacrifice, Jesus bore all my sorrow, all the guilt that was mine, all the sins I’ve committed washed away for all time, for all time. Thru His love so amazing, by His infinite grace I can stand in His presence, I can stand for He stood in my place, He stood in my place. Jesus bore all my sorrow, all the guilt that was mine, all the sins I’ve committed washed away for all time, for all time. So amazing, infinite grace, in His presence I can stand, for He stood in my place, I can stand, I can stand. Yes, He stood in my place.
